Summerfest Arts Faire LOGAN, UTAH:Summerfest Arts Faire is "Lookin' Up!" in 2009. In its' 26th year it is bigger and better than ever! Set on the shady lawn of the historic Logan Tabernacle on Father's Day weekend June 18-20, Summerfest offers fine art, great food and entertainment to it's visitors. 2009 will feature strolling stilt walkers, giant puppets, a large bubble tower, as well as quality entertainment with headliner concerts each evening. Local and regional visitors will have the opportunity to purchase fine art and gifts at great prices, and a delightful variety of food, snacks and drinks. All vendors are carefully selected for quality and variety and visitors will not be disappointed. Also featured is Plein Air, a contest for artists who create original art around Cache Valley June 14-16. New this year is "Plein Air Junior" for younger artistic talent. Be on the lookout for Plein Air participants throughout the valley and canyons as they paint behind their easels on-site and then submit their canvases for judging. All the works will be on display and up for silent auction. Many nationally recognized artists live in Cache Valley and many of them will be participating in Summerfest as a vendor or in the Plein Air competition. Executive Director Marianne Sidwell says, "Summerfest is probably the most highly anticipated festival in Cache Valley each year. It is a wonderful opportunity for ordinary people to obtain beautiful, high-class art for reasonable prices. Patrons look forward to sampling the delicious food and enjoying the entertainment as well, and in 2009 they can expect an amazing entertainment line-up and the best food around. In a time of economic instability and financial concern, this free event will be even more appreciated and universally enjoyed." Summerfest is a juried art festival that features more than 130 artists from across the country, live entertainment and good food. Mediums include oil and watercolor painting, fiber art, acrylics, sculpture, pottery, photography, jewelry and more. Admission is free. "Summerfest involves all areas of the community and it brings everyone together," said Wally Bloss, board chairman. "It showcases visual artists from the area and allows everyone to be transported to a different time and place. When you're there you don't have to worry about what else is going on in your life." Families will enjoy the children's art yard where youngsters can create a variety of arts projects themselves. Options may include making hats, sock puppets, easel painting and beading. Admission to the art yard is $2. "The shaded grounds at the Tabernacle are such a pleasant place to be. It's a great opportunity to meet your friends and view beautiful art," Bloss said. Summerfest hours are 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday and from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
